Spider 2019-08-25 Most nights while winding down before bed I step out my back door to pee outside. For the last few weeks when I’ve stepped out, I’ve looked up and seen a friend hanging above me: a spider in her web which is strung underneath the light above the door. I would pause for a moment to watch moths, attracted by the light, flutter urgently into the sticky web. Each time, the spider would immediately react, sprinting towards the exact location of the turmoil. I imagined that the web extended her senses outwards around her and that she could feel the wriggling moths trapped in the web as if they were stuck to a thin, stringy part of her own body. Tonight when I went out to pee the spider and her web were gone.
